2021 USA TODAY National High School Sports Awards –Girls Golf Player of the Year !

The USA TODAY Female HS Golfer of the Year is Virginia’s Melanie Walker!

Robinson Secondary School, Fairfax, Virginia, Junior: First Team All-State Virginia Girls 2020 & 2021, and 1st Team Coed with 2021 5th Place at Co-Ed States.

Melanie’s win in state comparatively for all other state champions was top 5 greatest margin of victory, top 5 for stroke differential, and top 5 total under par. Not only did Melanie win Virgina Girl’s state, but she also placed in top 5 in the Coed state championship with the team qualifying for state for 1st time since 1989. National Highschool Rankings  (NHSGA).

 

@highschoolsportsawards : “Melanie Walker showed composure and consistency as she handled a pandemic-shortened campaign for the high school golf postseason. Perfecting a rhythm she started early in the spring, the junior golfer handled district, region, team and open tournaments in back to back weeks. She eventually came away with a state title, which she won after completing 17 holes without a bogey. Walker maintained her consistency in the summer, finishing second at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Qualifier. 🏆 ”

Co-finalist for the girls golf player of the year:

 

JENNI ROLLER (Oklahoma) (captured her second straight state individual title and led her team to third in the tournament.

EMMA SCHIMPF (South Carolina) Won her second straight state title with a state record 11 under par beating her competition by 5 strokes.

MELANIE WALKER (Virginia) Claimed the State championship title with a 4 under par winning by 5 strokes.
