2021 USA TODAY National High School Sports Awards –Girls Golf Player of the Year !

The USA TODAY Female HS Golfer of the Year is Virginia’s Melanie Walker!

Robinson Secondary School, Fairfax, Virginia, Junior: First Team All-State Virginia Girls 2020 & 2021, and 1st Team Coed with 2021 5th Place at Co-Ed States.

Melanie’s win in state comparatively for all other state champions was top 5 greatest margin of victory, top 5 for stroke differential, and top 5 total under par. Not only did Melanie win Virgina Girl’s state, but she also placed in top 5 in the Coed state championship with the team qualifying for state for 1st time since 1989. National Highschool Rankings  (NHSGA).

 

@highschoolsportsawards : “Melanie Walker showed composure and consistency as she handled a pandemic-shortened campaign for the high school golf postseason. Perfecting a rhythm she started early in the spring, the junior golfer handled district, region, team and open tournaments in back to back weeks. She eventually came away with a state title, which she won after completing 17 holes without a bogey. Walker maintained her consistency in the summer, finishing second at the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship Qualifier. 🏆 ”

Co-finalist for the girls golf player of the year:

 

JENNI ROLLER (Oklahoma) (captured her second straight state individual title and led her team to third in the tournament.

EMMA SCHIMPF (South Carolina) Won her second straight state title with a state record 11 under par beating her competition by 5 strokes.

MELANIE WALKER (Virginia) Claimed the State championship title with a 4 under par winning by 5 strokes.

2021 National USA Today Highschool Sports Awards Nominee

USA Today just announced  nominees  for the national USA TODAY High School Sports Awards and I am  happy to report that I am one  of the  46 candidates  under Girls Golf sports representing Virginia State!

Winners from each state in 27 sports will be featured in the first USA TODAY High School Sports Awards, presented by U.S. Polo Assn. The show, hosted by Michael Strahan and Rob Gronkowski, will stream on-demand on the show website starting at 8 p.m. EDT Aug. 5.

Annika Invitational Jan 15th to 18th

Annika Invitational Jan 15th thru 18th at World Golf Village St Augustine, Florida.  Discovered some weaknesses to address when playing over 6400 yards competing against the best for under 18 golfers. Finished 47th out of 72 golfers that stayed in tournament (80 were initially in), but some WDs after 30 MPH winds on day 1. Round 3 really had improvements after working those weaknesses. Next tournament, look forward to bringing those as strengths!

66th Harder Hall Womens Invitational

Just completed Dec 28-31, 2020 WAGR Event then Harder Hall Women’s Invitational in Sebring, FL (80 Competitors many division 1 athletes)

Below are my stats:

  • 53 pars, tied for most in field with one other golfer over the 72 holes
  • 9 bogies, tied for fewest in field over 72 holes
  • 4 birdies, 5 doubles and 1 triple for 28th place overall, 7th place in 1st flight
  • Rounds of 76, 77,78 and 73 for +19 over 72 holes on 6200 yard course
